When we left you last week, we had just sailed from Mombasa bound for the hot sticky life of the Gulf. Our passage was uneventful until Friday night when we were passing Masirah, an island off the coast of Muscat and Oman, on which is situated quite a large RAF Base. By some devious means or other, the Captain had heard that a Turtle hunt was in progress there so we came in close and provided them with some illumination.

After our time on Beira, Mombasa was as welcome as the froth on a pint of Guinness. We entered Kilindini Harbour on the morning of Wednesday 8th. July, securing to buoys just opposite the dockyard, which was only five minutes taxi ride away from the town centre.

The continuing story of Beira Place.... The last week has passed peacefully in delightful weather, as backs grow browner and faces hairier (some of them do, anyway!). In fact, some of the more 'way out' facial fantasies are already developing well, and we should have quite a crop before we reach our next port of call.

28th Apr - 5th May 1970
It would hardly be true to say that we sailed full of the joys of Spring, but we did appear to have the first day of Summer. The morning and part of the afternoon were spent exercising with HMS ALLIANCE, one of our 'A' class submarines which was at sea for the first time after a years refit.
